Crestar Learning Centre and KLC International Institute Join Forces to Train the Next Generation of Chinese Drama Educators

June 13, 2025

To support the growth of Chinese drama education in Singapore, Crestar Learning Centre (CLC) and KLC International Institute (KLCII) have launched a structured “Chinese Drama Performance and Teaching” programme.

Designed and led by CLC’s senior trainer – Mr. Sam Suen, the course is tailored for KLCII graduates, specialising in early childhood and language education. The aim is to develop educators to be skilled in both drama performance and teaching.

Background

As Singapore strengthen its focus on bilingual and holistic education, drama is becoming a valuable tool in Mandarin classrooms for enhancing language and creativity. However, there remains a shortage of teachers trained in drama. This programme addresses that gap by developing educators who can integrate drama into language teaching effectively.

About the Collaborating Institutions

CLC contributes its expertise in Chinese children’s theatre and drama, while KLCII brings its strength in early childhood and language educator training. This collaboration offers graduates a well-rounded programme combining creative practice with educational depth.

Course Structure and Highlights

The two-month programme consists of workshops and hands-on practice. Participants learn drama teaching methods, expressive language skills, storytelling, and children’s theatre techniques. Simulated classrooms, group work, and peer feedback help ensure readiness for real teaching environments.

Future Opportunities

KLCII graduates will be equipped to lead Chinese drama classes and may pursue roles in preschool drama or curriculum development. CLC also plan to introduce advanced programme, certifications, and school collaboration to support ongoing professional growth.

Long-Term Impact

This initiative enhances bilingual education by encouraging creative teaching approaches. Through drama, educators can boost children’s language skills, confidence, and cultural awareness—nurturing a new generation of expressive and imaginative learners.
